Whitney Fuelling Earns 2nd Team All-American!


The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2008 All-Region and All-America teams today and four Crusaders were among the honorees. Seniors Whitney Fuelling (Milford, Mich.) and Lubovj Tihomirova (Riga, Latvia) along with junior Inta Grinvalds (Portage, Mich.) were named to the All-Mideast Region First Team while junior Mary McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) was selected to the Honorable Mention team. Tihomirova was then named to the All-America First Team while Fuelling was tabbed to the All-America Second Team.


Tihomirova led MU and ranked 11th nationally with her 4.08 kills per set average and sits fifth all-time at Madonna with her 2,413 career terminations. In her final season at MU, the Latvia native put down 616 balls. She also led the Crusaders with 43 aces this season and holds the single season record for kills with 967, set last season.


Fuelling led the WHAC and ranked 10th in the nation with her .385 attack percentage. The senior middle hitter also paced the WHAC with 1.3 blocks per set. Those 1.3 blocks also ranked her 18th on the national scene.

Milford Grad Earns All-MAC and Freshman of the Year Honors!

The Central Michigan volleyball team put together one of the best seasons in recent program history, and today the Chippewas were recognized for their accomplishments.

Head coach Erik Olson was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year and middle blocker Kaitlyn Schultz was named MAC Freshman of the Year.

In addition, senior Whitney Evers and Schultz earned first team All-MAC accolades, while junior Stephanie Budde garnered second team laurels. Schultz was also named a member of the MAC All-Freshman squad
